NYT: What Is This 'Internet'?
Unbeknownst to me, the New York Times has an in-house start page, presumably for use in the news room. The Navigator, as it's called (that's so space-age! what is it, 2009?), is a long list of fairly dull but pretty useful links. (Sometimes not: Ask Jeeves? Is that stupid butler still cluttering the internet?)
Of course, they list Slate and Salon, described as "cyber-literary-trend publications," which may be the most accurate and simultaneously most meaningless description I've ever heard. Best, Drudge is listed just above The Onion — but The Onion is the only one marked with a comedy disclaimer.
