· my friends and i had dinner at 9.30 on tuesday, january 20, at tortilla flats in the west village, right next to claire danes and billy crudup, drinking coronas at a table for two. the restaurant was 1/2 full but rowdy, loudly playing "free-shot" bingo. c & b played but never won, and did join the happy birthday sing-along for my friend when the time came. danes also hugged my friend goodbye outside as we left, only to be dragged off by crudup so they could mug down further down the block.

· saw "it-boy" fabian basabe at B8 suggestively holding hands with a dude later that evening. - heavy petting!
· Star studded night: Famke Janssen at Mitsuri at the Maritime for a long dinner last night. Wow, she looks even better in person. Then lionel richie and marky mark at adjacent tables in PM, which was otherwise empty. lionel was at a "model" table with i think his wife. mark was with six goombahs next table, not talking to anyone.
· Dan Ackroyd sighting last night at the Canadian Consulate event at the Explorer's Club - scoring one of the last seats at the packed lecture on the Canadian diamond industry (Canada is the world's third-biggest diamond producer - who knew? Apparently Dan Ackroyd). From behind (where I was sitting) Ackroyd looked very casual '80s chic in a worn leather jacket and black jeans, but the view from the front revealed that, bizarrely, he was in a shirt, tie and jacket underneath. Weird ensemble. He was very interested in the lecture, even asking a question during the Q&A (about whether one could specifically request a Canadian diamond from huge customer Tiffany's) and chatting animatedly following with a jewelery dealer from New Jersey and several polite Canadian fans. He declined a glass of wine at the reception, departing quietly with his blonde female companion, his head wrapped turban-style in a scarf, and disappeared up Park. He remains a wild and crazy guy.
· Sandra Bernhard, chewing lunch in the window of Ma Ma Buddha on Hudson Street. Grey argyle sweater and faraway look in her eyes. Having some Sandra time.
· Saturday's alright for stalking. Around 3:00 pm I spotted Mike D. of the Beastie Boys walking out of Whole Foods on 7th Avenue and getting in a cab. I wanted to yell at him to get in the studio and finish the damn album already, but he moved too quickly. He looked gaunt and every bit his 40-years old. If you told a 12-year old he was a famous hip-hop star, they would never believe you. Later that night I was having a cocktail at the Biltmore Room, lingering near the restroom entrance when a man asked me, "Are you on line?" I turned around and then looked up and saw a very tall, very "I wear my sunglasses at night" Howard Stern. He was with his blonde arm-piece. They then proceeded to sashay across the room to use the downstairs restroom, turning the heads of even the most jaded New Yorkers.
· saw helena christiansen sunday afternoon at chocolate bar in the west village with a gorgeous little blonde girl all wrapped up and a male model (shorter than her) with long blonde hair. took me a minute to recognize her from the side, but i had plenty of time to decide for sure because she took her time at the counter having some chocolates gift-wrapped. i was with a friend visiting from out of town and tried to explain to him who she was without being obvious. "the girl in chris isaak's 'wicked dream' video!" i hissed. she ordered a chocolate chai with whipped cream, and one of the skinny indie rock boys making drinks looked at her and said, "it's a tea." she then said, "oh, then the hot chocolate." don't know if it was for her or the kid.
· I saw Ethan Hawke on the N/R subway at 9am today (1/21) with a child in a stroller...
· Adam from Average Joe season 1: At the Loews Kips Bay Theater...Friday night (12/16)...seeing Along Came Polly-10:15 show
With a cute (but not as cute as Melena) brunette—clearly on a date. She looked embarassed as they walked in about 1 minute before the lights went down and people started calling out his name.
· saw moby at kate's joint saturday, jan. 17th, around noon. he was with a somewhat-cute-but- nondescript blond girl with hot pink streaks in her hair, and a dykey-looking girl with spikey short brown hair. i think he got the tofu scramble with toast. all three of them looked pretty serious, and didn't smile much. moby took out a notepad at one point. it almost seemed like a meeting of some kind, like the saturday morning vegan brunch discussion group.
· i was waiting in line behind calvin klein at the "genius bar" in the soho apple store (across from his underpants store, by the way). good with technology he's not.
· Phoebe Cates watching her hubby at the last perf of Henry IV on Sunday afternoon, with John McEnroe, whose hair is surprisingly grey and wavy with almost-mutton-chop sideburns, his wife Patty Smyth, who wore a funny wool hat through the whole show and had me singing "I am the Warrior!" all through the very (very) long afternoon, and escorted by a guy who looked like David Evangelista, the wacky gay hairdresser from the Rosie show. Is this possible? Phoebe looked super-cute, sat forward attentively in her seat, wore little makeup and doesn't even seem to dye her hair. Talk about aging well. Also seen at this perf: schools chancellor Joel Klein, dressed surprisingly in jeans, joshing around in the lobby at intermission, in alarmingly physical ways, with Time Warner honcho Dick Parsons.
· Saw Lee Radziwill Ross, younger sister of the late Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and ex-wife of the late film director Herb Ross, in her natural habitat in front of 760 Park Avenue at 72nd Street. An elderly multiple face-lift survivor in a ratty leopard coat.
· I saw Julianne Moore on the corner of Court Street and Amity St. the other day. She was wearing a long, black down parka and her hair was tossed into a sloppy ponytail but she looked beautiful, very slender. She smiled and me and told me that my baby was very cute.
· Philip Seymour Hoffman shuffling his characteristic shuffle onto the F at 11:40am on MLK Day. Wearing a very non-stylish winter coat and fidgeting with the Times, he blended masterfully with us non-celebrities.
· Fox News Channel's Shepard Smith, charging through the crowd to get outside of Nevada Smith's (74 3rd Ave) to be "fair and balanced" — he took a cell phone call while smoking a cigarette. He was a doll when he came back in because when I greeted him, he said I did a good job singing. (It was karaoke night.)
· Elijah Wood and Billy Boyd: They were iPod DJing all night at the Niagara Wednesday Nite Drink Social at Niagara (7th + A). DJ Frodo played a good mix of 60s, hardcore, punk. Him and Billy both seemed like super nice guys and were cool to anyone who came up and talked to them throughout the night.
