Theft Crackdown At W
It seems some of you young magazine ladies have some awfully sticky fingers. A memo went out at the end of day yesterday at Fairchild, home of W magazine. "During the last year," it begins, "Fairchild has experienced several very expensive losses of borrowed or consigned garments, accessories and jewelry from the fashion closets and/or shoot locations of our various publications." So sad: now the W fashion closet has its very own security camera, so quit your damn pilfering!

During the last year Fairchild has experienced several very expensive losses of borrowed or consigned garments, accessories and jewelry from the fashion closets and/or shoot locations of our various publications. In December an assessment was conducted with several members of our editorial staff to determine what other defensive measures could be implemented to diminish the possibility of future losses. As a result of that assessment the following preventive measures and procedures will be implemented. We will periodically review our procedures and update as needed.
Additional Security Cameras
Effective today, January 14th four (4) additional security cameras were installed on the 3rd floor. Two (2) cameras were placed inside the W fashion closet and will cover the entire room. Two (2) cameras were also installed on the back aisle where manifesting often occurs. One will face north towards 35th street and one will face south towards 34th street. All cameras will run 24 hours a day.
Locks
General Services is working with the various editorial fashion departments to provide new locks. These locks will be changed periodically throughout the year. If you have not been contacted by General Services and need a new lock, please call Arthur Giacopelli or Jack Daley.
Personal Use of Loaned Merchandise
The personal use of loaned merchandise is not permitted under any circumstances.
Valuables Handling Policy
We will be implementing a NEW Valuables Handling Policy that will cover general procedures for the handling and transportation (domestic or international) of garments, jewelry and accessories. The new policy will also include information about who to contact when an item is misplaced, lost or stolen, along with guidelines of the investigation process should an item become lost or stolen. This policy will be distributed in the next few weeks.
Fashion Closet Accessibility Procedures
New procedures have or will be established regarding accessibility to each publication s fashion closet. If you have any questions regarding these new procedures, please direct them to your manager, fashion closet staff member or any senior member of your respective editorial fashion staff.
We will periodically review our procedures and update as needed. In the meantime if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you.
