So quickly the tide turns. In yesterday's NY Observer, media-lover Sridhar Pappu wrote, "By now, it seems that half the men s-room attendants in this town can rattle off a list of would-be bidders and their prospects." In Media Life, Jeff Bercovici insinuates that it's hard to care about the magazine's sale, and dismisses New York mag as a washed-up remnant of a once-great institution.

I mean, sure New York's service journalism rampage is out of control. Their constant list-making got so frantic this year that they included Los Angeles residents in their 50 Sexiest New Yorkers issue, for crying out loud.

I must caution everyone against the New York sale being P.D.O. (Prematurely Declared Over). This sale will bring much-needed drama to the sad denizens of Manhattan's media world. Star attraction Michael Wolff will continue to dance for us like a trained pony, particularly with his new potential backer, nutty foul-mouthed ad-man Donny Deutsch, on board.

For the record, the New York sale went from hot to not in a record 34 days. Quick! Everyone's getting bored! Get Michael Wolff to stab a mogul!
