We're all a little freaked out today (and not just because we can't tell if we really are living in the 70s, as per Sunday's NYT Magazine). Seriously: none of us knew just how much New York Mag's media columnist (and Dr. Evil impersonator) Michael Wolff was getting paid. Now that we do, we all feel sort of... unclean.

Half a million dollars. Excuse me, I'll be getting scrubbed down like Karen Silkwood for the next half hour.

Compare and contrast to New York Mag's profits last year: 1.5 million dollars. As the new weblog Low Culture puts it, "Wolff makes a shit load of money... I'm too polite to even comment on New York's anorexic profit margin, but needless to say, it sort of re-combines and inverts the old maxim that you can never be too rich or too thin."
