On Friday, Women's Wear Daily speculated about the empty CEO position at Primedia, claiming the short list of applicants to be very short indeed. It's true; Primedia'd be damn lucky to find a CEO before New York magazine is raffled off within the next five months.

The magazine sale, however, is far more fascinating. WWD puts Mort Zuckerman at the head of their short list of purchasers, claiming that publishing the NY Daily News makes him a good fit for New York. Really? We think the two publications have as much in common as apples and...whatever the opposite of apples is.

We hear something quite different: that the rumored dark horse purchaser, New York contributing editor Michael Wolff, has been a very busy man. We have also heard that he's talked with big-time potential backers from way outside the print media world.

So from what we've heard, our money's on long-shot wily Wolff. Of course, that same night we also heard that Casey Affleck is going to be Bennifer's best man this week at a secret ceremony. And we also heard that there were some bad moules at Pastis. One hears all sorts of things in the dark gossipy nexus that is the Meatpacking District.
