This is actually more of a explanation than a letter. Most people got the gist of the NY Mag post, but just to clarify, I don't hate New York magazine; I just think it's been watered down by sappy service journalism. (*Sigh.* Explaining the joke is so exhausting.)

If I hated NY Mag, I wouldn't read it at all. I'd use it to smoosh spiders like I do Harpers, or to bookmark my place in Vanity Fair, like I do US Weekly. I just thought someone needed to do a little intervention before everyone there overdosed on hamburger recommendationsyou know, confront them about the problem, try to get them help. Calmly instruct them to put the Zagats down and step away from the sorbet...

And yes, I saw Simon Dumenco's column about Tina Brown's show, Gawker, Romenesko, etc., and I thought it was pretty funny. He basically says that people don't actually have to watch or read anything as long as they read the summaries and can fake being "in the know." Blogs and TiVos are birthing a small army of little faker Jayson Blairs. I'd suggest that you read it, but that seems needlessly superfluous now that I've summarized it.
